Arkansas' efforts to create its own health insurance exchange have ended, and State Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford said the state will rely on the federally-designed exchange, according to a news release from the Arkansas Insurance Department (pdf).
Mr. Bradford said the legislative opposition to developing an Arkansas-led exchange put the state behind, and it would not have met the deadline to create its own, according to the release.
Arkansas received a $1-million grant from the federal government in Sept. 2010 to begin planning for an insurance exchange and will now focus its attention on how state residents will fit within the federal exchange.
