Paxlovid might help treat some patients with long COVID, a recent study found.
Long COVID affects about 6.9% of adults, according to the CDC, and women are slightly more likely than men to get it. In June, a Stanford (Calif.) Medicine study of 155 patients with moderate to severe COVID found that taking Paxlovid for 15 days was safe, but didn't reduce symptoms of long COVID.
But a study published Jan. 6 in Communications Medicine found Paxlovid could help some patients. The study had 13 patients with long COVID take Paxlovid for seven to 30 days. The results were mixed: Nine patients reported improvement, but only five said it lasted, while four reported no improvement at all.
So far, there has been no widely effective treatment found for long COVID.
