Many nursing homes are closing due to financial strain, but changing service models from fee-for-service to value-based care could help improve their finances, Rajeev Kumar, MD, president of AMDA-The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, told Becker's.
Most nursing homes are dependent on fee-for-service payments for Medicare and Medicaid, but value-based care could be the higher paying option.
"By participating in value-based care models such as I-SNPs and ACOs, facilities that strive to provide quality care for their residents and produce better outcomes can be reimbursed at a higher rate for their efforts," he said.
