Residents of Hawaii had the highest well-being of any state in the U.S. in 2015, according to a recent Gallup and Healthways poll.
2015 marks the fifth year Hawaii held the top spot since Gallup and Healthways first starting tracking well-being in 2008. Hawaii and Colorado are the only two states that have made the list of the 10 highest well-being states each year of the poll.

The state-level data are based on more than 177,000 interviews with U.S. adults across all 50 states, conducted from January to December 2015. To determine the order of states by well-being, the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index score comprises metrics affecting overall well-being and each of its five essential elements, according to Gallup:
- Purpose: Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
- Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life
- Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
- Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community
- Physical: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
