The American Public Health Association is launching a summer webinar series about racism's impact on health disparities.
"The recent events in Charleston, S.C., Baltimore, and Ferguson, Mo., remind us that stigma, inequalities and civil rights injustices remain in our society today," according to the APHA. "Unfortunately, skin color plays a large part in how people are viewed, valued and treated."
In response to recent events, the APHA will kick off its webinar series on July 21 with a session titled "Naming and Addressing Racism: A Primer." The webinar will feature APHA's president and president-elect who will take a look at some of the leading health inequities and how difficult conversations about racism are necessary to improving health for all.
The webinar will also introduce a framework for understanding the basis for race-associated differences in health, designing effective interventions to eliminate those differences and engaging in a national conversation.
Participants who register for and attend the entire webinar, as well as complete an evaluation online, can earn one CPH CE credit hour and obtain a CE certificate.
