Seven drugs approved by the FDA since Aug. 19:

  1. Rituxan is a treatment for granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyangiitis, rare vasculitis diseases that cause inflammation of blood vessels and reduce blood flow to organs. It is the first treatment approved to treat the diseases in children.

  2. Mavyret is a hepatitis C drug that treats compensated cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C who weigh at least 99 pounds. It shortens treatment time to eight weeks from 12 weeks.

  3. Jynneos is the only vaccine approved by the FDA for monkeypox and the first live, non-replicating vaccine to prevent both monkeypox and smallpox.

  4. Rybelsus is the first oral tablet to control blood sugar in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It is the first GLP treatment that doesn't need to be injected.

  5. Ofev is the first treatment for a rare interstitial lung disease associated with systemic sclerosis or scleroderma. It was originally approved in 2014 for adult patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

  6. Xenleta is used to treat adults with community-acquired bacterial pneumonia. It is available in oral or intravenous formulations.

  7. Rinvoq is a once-daily oral pill for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. It belongs to a class of medications known as JAK inhibitors that block enzymes that cause inflammation.
