Takeda finalizes Shire takeover, now among top 10 drugmakers worldwide

Takeda finalized its $62 billion acquisition of Shire Jan. 8, catapulting the Japanese company into a new league of pharma giants, according to Bloomberg.

The merged pharmaceutical company is now one of the top 10 drugmakers in the world with about $31 billion in revenue. The takeover also strengthens Takeda's global pipeline for rare disease drugs.

The deal, which is around 46 percent cash and 54 percent stock, also makes the drugmaker one of the most indebted.
