The University of Missouri-Kansas City has fired another professor from its pharmacy school after a faculty review, according to the Kansas City Star.
Anil Kumar, PharmD, a long-term professor who previously chaired the pharmacy school's division of pharmacology, was let go after "a rigorous process" and recommendation by a 10-member faculty committee.
The university declined to discuss why Dr. Kumar was under review, citing privacy laws that prevent disclosure of personnel matters.
"When issues are reported with members of our faculty, we investigate and take appropriate actions as dictated by UMKC policy and the collected rules and regulations of the University of Missouri System," University of Missouri-Kansas City Chancellor Mauli Agrawal told the Star.
His outster follows that of former pharmacy professor Asim Mitra, PhD, who was let go earlier this year.
Dr. Mitra, accused of exploiting graduate students in his lab, was sued by the university for allegedly stealing and selling student research to a drugmaker and defrauding the university of millions of dollars. He was immediately suspended by the university and left in March.
