UPMC Bedford in Everett, Pa., has temporarily closed its intensive care unit to allow staff to provide support in other hospital departments, the hospital confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review.
This time of the year is typically the busiest for the hospital, an emailed hospital statement said, prompting the hospital's move of ICU staff to units where the need is greater.
Patients who require ICU-level care will be transferred to UPMC Altoona (Pa.) or another facility.
"We expect to continue providing intensive care-level inpatient services at UPMC Bedford and for those services to resume upon further evaluation from hospital leadership," according to the statement.
The hospital did not respond to further questions from Becker's. This article will be updated when more information is available.
