Patient killed in Ohio ambulance crash

An ambulance carrying a patient crashed in Vermilion, Ohio March 15, killing the patient and injuring the ambulance's two emergency medical technicians, according to a WJW report.

The North Central EMS ambulance was heading eastbound when the driver reportedly had a medical condition, according to Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Lt. Brett Gockstetter. The driver lost control and drove off the road into a ravine, where it flipped over. The ambulance came to a rest in an upright position.

The 76-year-old patient died as a result of the crash. The driver was injured and taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, according to The Chronicle. A medical helicopter transported the EMT in the back of the ambulance to the University of Toledo (Ohio) Medical Center with injuries.

"We want to express our deep sorrow about this tragic incident and sincere condolences to the patient's family and those involved," a North Central EMS spokesperson said in a statement obtained by WJW. "At this time, we are fully cooperating with authorities as they investigate the cause of this tragic accident."
