Healthcare professionals said health disparities and inadequate treatment options are their top concerns in oncology, according to a recent poll from Becker's on LinkedIn.
The poll, conducted Sept. 19 to 21, asked participants what they were most concerned about in oncology right now. Of 834 respondents, 27 percent said health disparities, 26 percent said inadequate treatment options, 24 percent said cancer drug shortages and 22 percent said increased cases.
Some participants also pointed to issues such as cost of care and survivorship care and support.
Pathologist Michael Mazzotta, PhD, added in the comments, "During COVID-19, many people did not go for their routine annual checkup. Issues (like cancer) that could have been detected in 2020 are only now coming to light. I cannot speak for my colleagues, but the cancer just seems 'uglier' than normal and being discovered in much younger patients."
