Samaritan Health, Roswell Park partner on medical oncology

Medical oncology care provided at Watertown, N.Y.-based Samaritan Medical Center will now be overseen by specialists from Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The affiliation launched Oct. 18 and will advance cancer research, education and prevention services at Samaritan's Walker Center for Cancer Care as well as enable access to innovative therapies in a community practice setting, according to a news release.

The Walker Center's Florence Arnold, MD, and Ihsan Haq, MD, will become employees of the Roswell Park Care Network as part of the affiliation and will continue to provide care at the location.

"We are very pleased to partner with the high-quality oncology program at Samaritan and to work collaboratively to expand the therapies and services available to cancer patients in the North Country," said Thomas Schwaab, MD, PhD, a urologic oncologist and chief of strategy, business development and outreach at Roswell Park.

"Together, we will provide seamless access to services these individuals would otherwise have to travel hours for, starting with multidisciplinary care and access to oncology and surgical subspecialists."

The Roswell Park Care Network is an expansive community cancer care affiliation that provides supportive and specialized care services across upstate New York.
