Which States Have the Highest Percentages of Uninsured Adults?

Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured adults, according to State Health Facts, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

The data was compiled from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement of the Current Population Survey by the Census Bureau. The data from the March 2011 and 2012 supplements were used.

There are a more than 40 million uninsured adults in the United States, according to the data. The states with the highest percentages of uninsured people are:

•    Texas — 31 percent
•    New Mexico — 29 percent
•    Louisiana — 29 percent
•    Florida — 28 percent
•    Nevada — 27 percent
•    Georgia, California, Arkansas, Montana, Mississippi, South Carolina — 26 percent
•    Oklahoma, Idaho — 25 percent
•    Wyoming — 24 percent
•    Alaska, Arizona, North Carolina — 23 percent
•    New Jersey, Illinois, Kentucky  — 21 percent
