Mercy Health Partners, based in Knoxville, Tenn., is changing its name to Tennova Healthcare, according to a Knoxville News Sentinel report.
The 6-hospital system's new name translates to "new healthcare for Tennessee." It will go into effect following the anticipated October closing of Health Management Associates' acquisition of Mercy.
The first part of Tennova represents Mercy's connection to Tennessee. The second portion, "nova," is derived from the Latin word "novare," meaning to make new.
