Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass., part of Boston-based Steward Health Care System, announced plans for an approximately $18 million new emergency department.
The new ED will encompass 39,000 square feet and will house 42 treatment rooms — including 25 general treatment rooms, eight fast track rooms, eight psychiatric holding rooms and one resuscitation room — and a new imaging suite. The new facility will increase the ED's capacity, increase privacy, allow for greater involvement of families and decrease noise, according to the report.
The ED will be located where the hospital's administration building currently exists.
The hospital plans to begin work later this month and expects to complete the project by the end of 2013.
