McAllen, Texas, topped WalletHub's 2025 ranking of the most overweight and obese cities in the U.S., published March 17, while Honolulu is the healthiest-weight city.
The personal finance website compared 100 of the most populated U.S. metropolitan areas across three key dimensions: obesity and overweight, health consequences, and food and fitness.
WalletHub evaluated these dimensions using 19 metrics, ranging from share of overweight adults to number of health educators and community health workers per capita. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the "fattest." Each metropolitan area's overall score was then based on the weighted average across all metrics. More information about the methodology is available here.
