Republican lawmakers have asked leaders in both the House and Senate to not support a government funding bill unless it defunds the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Following threats to shut down the government, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) calling for the repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Eleven other Senate Republicans signed the letter, in which Mr. Lee states that the Obama administration's recent decision to delay the PPACA employer mandate shows the law is a failure and will hurt businesses, families and the economy. As a result, Mr. Lee and his supporters won't sign any appropriations legislation that funds the PPACA.
In the House, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and 66 co-signers are circulating a similar letter asking Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) not to allow votes on a spending bill unless it defunds the PPACA.
