Rapid City (S.D.) Regional Hospital has opened its $5 million emergency department expansion, according to a Rapid City Journal report.
The expansion added 13,000 square feet to the hospital, including 14 private rooms and six admissions rooms. The project also connected the ED to the pediatric department and main tower.
The new admissions rooms will allow the hospital to send patients to the floor above to be monitored before admission, which leaves treatment rooms available for patients who can be treated and released. This new process could reduce ED wait time, according to the report.
