Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Pomerado Health announced it has shortened its name to Palomar Health and adopted a new logo.
The health system's board of directors voted to change the name and logo to improve the district's name recognition as the organization expands throughout the region.
Palomar Health plans to open a new $956 million hospital in Escondido in August. Dubbed "The Hospital of the Future," the 740,000-square-foot, 288-bed hospital will be the first new hospital in the county in more than 30 years. As the new hospital opens, Palomar Medical Center in Escondido will transition from a general acute-care hospital to one that specializes in women and children's, rehabilitation and behavioral health services. The facility's emergency department will also be converted into an urgent care clinic because the ED will move to the new hospital.
The system will phase in the new name and logo over several months.
