Greenville, N.C.-based University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina will shorten its name and its Pitt County Memorial Hospital will become UHS Medical Center, effective Oct. 1, according to a Daily Reflector report.
UHS of Eastern Carolina will drop the last two words to become UHS. The hospital's name change to UHS Medical Center will more closely align it with the health system and reflect its teaching status. Legal names of the entities will not change.
Hospital President Steve Lawler said the new name will help spur the hospital's growth and medical recruitment efforts by identifying it as a facility that has evolved into something more than a small community hospital, according to the report.
