When Supreme Court justices begin hearing arguments for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act later this month, the White House wants to make sure support for the landmark healthcare bill helps shape public opinion, according to a New York Times report.
Last week, officials within President Barack Obama's administration and many non-profit organization leaders who support the PPACA began planning several press conferences and other events to be held outside the Supreme Court when the review begins March 26.
Recently, Republicans in Congress and elsewhere have ramped up attacks on the healthcare reform law, ranging from women's health provisions to potential repeal of the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
White officials said they would prefer to focus attention on job creation and the need for clean energy initiatives, but the Supreme Court arguments and have forced them to plan for more outward support of the PPACA, according to the report.
Ronald Pollack, executive director of Families USA, which was one of the 60 non-profit organizations that helped plan upcoming events, said the theme of the events would be, "Protect our healthcare, protect the law," according to the report.
