The healthcare sector added 8,000 jobs in May for total seasonally adjusted employment of 13.73 million, but some areas saw slight declines during the month, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Ambulatory care services, which include physicians' offices and ASCs, added 8,700 jobs in May, with total seasonally adjusted employment at 5.9 million, up from 5.89 million in April. Physicians' offices added 2,500 jobs, whereas outpatient care centers lost 300 jobs in May.
Hospitals reported a loss of 3,300 jobs in May, with total seasonally adjusted employment at 4.707 million jobs, down from 4.711 million in April.
