HCA East Florida, a Fort Lauderdale subsidiary of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corp. of America, has filed a certificate of need with Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration to build a 100-bed teaching hospital with Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla.
The hospital would be located on NSU's main campus and become one of Broward County's only academic medical centers. HCA East Florida and NSU officials hope to begin construction next year, but the state must approve the CON.
If the teaching hospital were approved, Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation, Fla., part of HCA East Florida, would be only 3.5 miles away. Memorial Hospital Pembroke in Pembroke Pines, Fla., part of Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Healthcare System, would be seven miles away.
HCA East Florida currently operates 14 hospitals and 12 ambulatory surgery centers throughout south Florida.
