Desert Valley Hospital in California Ready to Open $40M Expansion

The nearly $40 million expansion project at Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, Calif.,  will soon open, after the new facility is granted a state license, according to a Daily Press report.

The 50,000-square-foot wing adds 53 new beds and 12 intensive care units.

Desert Valley was experiencing a hospital-bed shortage which prompted the expansion. Its 1.1 hospital beds per 1,000-population was well below the 1.9 average in California and the 2.7 average nationwide.

Once the additional beds open, patients will be able to move into a patient room more quickly easing the heavy flow through the emergency room, which had been overcrowding due to the hospital-bed shortage, according to the report.
