Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell proposes spending $352 million for the University of Connecticut Health Center in the latest plan to replace the University of Connecticut's John Dempsey Hospital, according to a report by the Hartford Courant.
John Dempsey Hospital would get a new $236 million patient tower, the UConn Health Center itself would get $96 million in renovations and Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center would get funding to develop programs.
While state funding problems have stymied previous plans, the new plan relies on $227 million in state bonding money, $25 million from previously approved funding and $100 million in federal funds that are not secured yet.
