Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia to Close Urgent Care Center

Charleston (W.Va.) Area Medical Center will close its urgent care center in St. Albans, W.Va., March 30, according to a Charleston Daily Mail report.

One of the reasons for the closure is that the facility consistently had the lowest patient volume among its counterparts in other areas.

Last year, CAMC cut back the St. Albans facility's hours and reduced its staff to one physician and four other employees in an attempt to keep the center open. However, the reduced staff could not support an open clinic. "We're just down to where we don't have the staff to keep it open," hospital spokesman Dale Witte said in the report.

Teays Valley, W.Va.-based Family Care plans to open a clinic in the vacated space.
