Stating that Jersey City, N.J.-based Christ Hospital has provided an "invaluable and irreplaceable service" to the surrounding community, the Hudson County board passed a resolution to keep the bankrupt hospital in the city and open as an acute-care facility, according to a Jersey Journal report.
"We will no longer be accepting the closure of any health facility, especially Christ Hospital," Board Chair Eliu Rivera said in the report.
Last month, Christ Hospital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has since searched for buyers. Several for-profit hospitals have showed interest, such as Secaucus, N.J.-based Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center and Hudson Hospital Holdco. Prime Healthcare, a for-profit hospital chain based in Ontario, Calif., withdrew its bid to purchase Christ Hospital last month.
