The men and women included on this list lead organizations regularly recognized for patient safety and quality. Several have overseen hospital expansions, mergers and EHR implementations as well as the construction of satellite clinics and strategic partnerships with local healthcare organizations. These individuals hold an important role within their community, serving on corporate boards and state-level initiatives to improve access to care.

Todd Almendinger. President and CEO of Magruder Hospital (Port Clinton, Ohio). Mr. Almendinger joined Magruder Hospital in 2006 as the vice president of finance and CFO before being appointed CEO in 2012. He came from Delaware, Ohio-based Grady Memorial Hospital, where he served as vice president of finance and CFO. Mr. Almendinger earned both his bachelor of science and MBA degrees from Bowling Green (Ohio) State University.
Sandra Anderson. President of Ascension Eagle River Memorial Hospital (Eagle River, Wis.) and Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital (Tomahawk, Wis.). Ms. Anderson is president of Ascension Wisconsin's Northwoods facilities, including Ascension Eagle River (Wis.) Memorial Hospital, Tomahawk, Wis.-based Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital, Rhinelander, Wis.-based Ascension St. Mary's Hospital and Woodruff, Wis.-based Howard Young Health Care. She previously served in leadership positions at hospitals in Wisconsin and Ohio.
Arthur Blank. President and CEO of Mount Desert Island Hospital (Bar Harbor, Maine). Mr. Blank joined Mount Desert Island Hospital in 1999 during which time he transitioned the facility to a critical access hospital, incorporated nine community health centers and helped establish the Maine Rural Health Collaborative with four other rural hospitals in the state. He is the former chairman of the board for the Maine Hospital Association and HealthInfoNet, Maine's health information exchange.
Thomas Borowski. President, Hudson (Wis.) Hospital & Clinic. Mr. Borowski came to Hudson Hospital & Clinic in 2017 from the Mayo Clinic Health System's Waseca, Minn.-based and New Prague, Minn.-based medical centers, where he had been CEO since 2014. He previously served as the chief compliance officer, chief knowledge management officer and CIO for Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System's Southwest Minnesota Region.
Doug Bush. President of ProMedica Defiance (Ohio) Regional Hospital. Before joining ProMedica Defiance in January, Mr. Bush served as associate vice president of strategic planning and business development for Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica. While there he gained experience investigating business development opportunities for expanding care and developing new care delivery models. As CEO, Mr. Bush oversees operations at the 25-bed critical access hospital. He earned an MBA from the University of Toledo.
Jack Keller. CEO of St. Thomas Hickman Hospital (Centerville, Tenn.). Mr. Keller has been CEO of St. Thomas Hickman Hospital for nearly 20 years. The hospital's system includes a critical access hospital, a 40-bed long-term care facility, an outpatient psychiatric unit and two rural health clinics. He previously served as CEO of Camden (Tenn.) General Hospital and vice president of professional services at Huntingburg, Ind.-based St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Keller earned his bachelor's degree from Evansville-based University of Southern Indiana and a master's degree in health services administration from the University of Evansville. He has served as president of the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Town of Centerville (Tenn.) Industrial Board.
Patrick Carron. President and CEO of Perry County Memorial Hospital (Perryville, Mo.). Mr. Carron began his healthcare career as a registered nurse at Barnes Hospital and St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. He joined Perry County Memorial Hospital in 1993 as vice president of operations before being promoted to president and CEO in 2005. He serves on the board of trustees of the Girardeau-based Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Services and is also a board member of the Healthcare Services Group, a part of the Missouri Hospital Association.
Paula Chermside. CEO of Aspirus Ironwood (Mich.) Hospital. Ms. Chermside served as COO of Aspirus Ironwood before being named CEO in 2016. While COO, she oversaw major expansion and renovation projects at the hospital and implemented an EMR system. In her current role, Ms. Chermside presides over the 25-bed critical access hospital, which the National Rural Hospital Association ranked among the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation in 2018.
Moody Chisholm. President and CEO of UT Health East Texas (Tyler). Mr. Chisolm is responsible for the operations of 11 hospitals, two freestanding emergency centers and over 50 clinics that make up UT Health East Texas. He has more than 35 years of healthcare experience and previously served as CEO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based St. Vincent's Healthcare.
Sharon Cox. CEO of Rawlins County Health Center (Atwood, Kan.). Ms. Cox is responsible for operations at the 24-bed critical access hospital that includes more than 70 employees. She has served as chairperson for the Kansas Hospital Association Workforce Technical Advisory Group and was a member of the Rural Health Visioning Technical Advisory Group. Ms. Cox earned a master's in management from Regis University in Denver.
Dolan Dalpoas. President and CEO of Abraham Lincoln (Ill.) Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dalpoas was appointed CEO of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in 2006 and has served in various leadership positions within Memorial Health System since joining in 1994. In 2000, he received the Southern Illinois Regent's Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives as the early career healthcare executive of the year. He earned a master's degree in public health from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Michael Donlin. Administrator of Floyd Valley Healthcare (Le Mars, Iowa). Mr. Donlin began his career in healthcare as an orderly at an Onamia, Minn.-based hospital before he joined the Navy and was assigned to the National Naval Medical Center — now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center — in 1975. After serving in administration for military hospitals across the country, Mr. Donlin became administrator for Floyd Valley Hospital in 1998, which is now known as Floyd Valley Healthcare. Mr. Donlin is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the boards of Le Mars Area Dialysis Services and the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation.
Mike Dowdy. CEO of Central Montana Medical Center (Lewistown). Mr. Dowdy has been CEO of Central Montana Medical Center since 2015. He has led the hospital's efforts to participate in a rural ACO, and the hospital was among the top performers of its group for 2016. Before leading Central Montana Medical Center, Mr. Dowdy served as president of strategy and business development at Billings, Mont.-based St. Vincent Healthcare and Miles City, Mont.-based Holy Rosary Healthcare. In addition to serving as CEO, Mr. Dowdy has filled in as an ambulance transport driver when needed and has begun studying to be an emergency medical technician.
Mark Fourre, MD. President and CEO of Coastal Healthcare Alliance (Belfast, Maine). Dr. Fourre became CEO of Coastal Healthcare Alliance in 2016, after Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital merged in the fall of 2015. Since the merger, more than 70 clinical and nonclinical programs have been integrated under Dr. Fourre's leadership. Dr. Fourre serves as the president and CEO of Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital, which saw 3,316 and 1,486 inpatient admissions, respectively, in 2017.
Toby Freier. President of New Ulm (Minn.) Medical Center. During Mr. Freier's tenure as president, New Ulm Medical Center received the AHA Nova Award and earned a spot on iVantage Health Analytics' annual Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals list not just once, but five times. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and frequently speaks across the country on how to transform rural healthcare.
Scott Fuller. Regional Hospital President of Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital (Luling, Texas), Seton Smithville (Texas) Regional Hospital and Seton Highland Lakes Hospital (Burnet, Texas). Mr. Fuller joined Seton in 2006 as vice president and COO for Seton Highland Lakes Hospital and its several health centers. He assumed his role as president of Seton Highland Lakes, Seton Edgar B. Davis and Seton Smithville Regional hospitals in 2017. Highland Lakes and Edgar B. Davis are both 25-bed critical access hospitals, and all three are part of St. Louis-based Ascension.
Tim Herrmann. Chief Administrative Officer of PeaceHealth Cottage Grove (Ore.) Community Medical Center. Mr. Herrmann became trauma program coordinator of Eugene, Ore.-based PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1988. He was promoted to administrator and then to chief administrative officer of PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center in 2014. Mr. Herrmann is the founding member and first president of the Oregon Rural Health Quality Network, an organization providing quality training and care coordination to rural and community hospitals and healthcare providers. Before he joined PeaceHealth, Mr. Herrmann was a staff nurse and trauma program coordinator at Honolulu-based Queen's Medical Center.
Christopher Hunt, PhD. President of Clay County Hospital (Flora, Ill.). Dr. Hunt holds a doctorate in healthcare administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and currently oversees operations at the 25-bed Clay County Hospital as president. Before joining Clay County Hospital, Mr. Hunt was vice president of clinical services for Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland, Ohio.
Dale Hustedt. CEO of Aspirus Medford (Wis.) Hospital & Clinics. Mr. Hustedt serves as the CEO of Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics, a 25-bed nonprofit critical access hospital. Previously, Mr. Hustedt was the president and CEO of Estherville, Iowa-based Avera Holy Family Hospital and served as the chief administrative officer of Willmar, Minn.-based Rice Memorial Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Jeanie Gentry. CEO of Steele Memorial Medical Center (Salmon, Idaho). Ms. Gentry joined Steele Memorial Medical Center in April 2016, prior to which she served as CEO of two St. Charles Health System hospitals in Madras and Prineville, Ore., for five years. During her tenure with St. Charles, she implemented population health initiatives and large-scale construction projects. Ms. Gentry also served as vice president of allied health at St. John's Lutheran Hospital in Libby, Mont., for 13 years, where she oversaw the lab, imaging, rehab, pharmacy, IT, human resources and marketing departments.
Keith Gnagey. CEO of Teton Valley Health (Driggs, Idaho). Mr. Gnagey has a 34-year history of business management experience — including change management, business turnaround and systems implementation — and developmental experience, stretching from the U.S. to Europe. Prior to serving as the CEO of Teton Valley Health, Mr. Gnagey served as vice president for American Management Systems and as the general manager of AMS Healthcare.
Martin Guthmiller. CEO of Orange City (Iowa) Area Health System. Mr. Guthmiller has served as the CEO of Orange City Area Health System since 1993. During his tenure, he oversaw the planning, fundraising and construction of the system's $29.6 million expansion. He has also served on the boards of Community Health Partners, Northwest Iowa Dialysis Center and Orange City Development Corp. Before joining Orange City, Mr. Guthmiller was CFO and assistant administrator at Sheldon-based Northwest Iowa Health Center.
Hank Hanigan. CEO of Whitman Hospital & Medical Center (Colfax, Wash.). Mr. Hanigan joined Whitman Hospital & Medical Center in 2014 as CEO. Mr. Hanigan is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and an active member of the Washington State Hospital Association, where he serves on the public policy, rural hospital and critical access hospital network committees. Under his leadership, Whitman Hospital earned a five-star rating for patient satisfaction on CMS' Hospital Compare in 2016.
Barry Jacobsen. CEO of Myrtue Medical Center (Harlan, Iowa). Mr. Jacobsen was appointed CEO of Myrtue Medical Center in 2009 after working there for more than a decade. Myrtue Medical Center's integrated healthcare facility includes medical clinics and behavioral health services as well as the Petersen Family Wellness Center and Lewis Family Aquatic Complex. Before becoming CEO, he was Myrtue's CFO for 11 years.
Matthew Johnson. President and CEO of Cherokee (Iowa) Regional Medical Center. Mr. Johnson has served as the CEO of Cherokee Regional Medical Center since 2016 but has worked at the hospital since 2008. He currently oversees operations at the hospital, including the addition of a 15,000-square-foot clinic. Mr. Johnson worked as a physical therapist and then as director of physical medicine and rehabilitation prior to his role as CEO.
M. Steven Jones. President of University Hospitals Geneva (Ohio) Medical Center. Mr. Jones has served as the CEO of UH Geneva Medical Center since 2016. Mr. Jones, along with the team he leads, has concentrated on physician recruitment, quality patient care, patient satisfaction and employee-physician engagement. Prior to his role as CEO, Mr. Jones served as vice president and COO of Chardon, Ohio-based UH Geauga Medical Center.
Trisha Jungels. Interim CEO of Jamestown (N.D.) Regional Medical Center. Ms. Jungels assumed the role of interim CEO in August, while still serving as the CNO and vice president of clinical services at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. She serves on the nursing advisory board of the University of Jamestown, where she earned her bachelor of arts in nursing, and has 11 years of nursing experience. Ms. Jungels is active in community health assessment and improvement planning for Stutsman and Logan counties.
Brian Denton. Administrator of Mercy Hospital Kingfisher (Okla.). Mr. Denton joined Mercy Hospital Kingfisher as administrator in 2013 and previously served in leadership roles at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountainview, Mo., where he directed outpatient services and managed the rollout of the hospital's EHR. He earned his master's in healthcare administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Jennifer Derks. Chief Administrative Officer of Ascension Calumet Medical Center (Chilton, Wis.). Ms. Derks joined Calumet Medical Center more than 21 years ago. In her current role as chief administrative officer, she oversees the design and implementation of strategies that support system functions, monitors and evaluates overall performance and provides long-range strategic vision. She received her master’s in human resources management from Manchester-based Southern New Hampshire University.
Mariann Doeling. President of CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington (N.D.) Medical Center. Ms. Doeling is responsible for the financial day-to-day operations of CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington and works with the CHI Fargo (N.D.) Division to align national and regional goals. She is a member of the North Dakota Trauma Foundation and was on the board of directors for the North Dakota Hospital Association. Ms. Doeling earned her master's in organizational leadership from Fargo, N.D.-based University of Jamestown.
Jennifer Kessel. CEO of Aultman Orrville (Ohio) Hospital. Appointed in June, Ms. Kessel is new as CEO of Aultman Orrville Hospital. However, she is no stranger to the 25-bed critical access facility, having joined the Aultman Health Foundation in 2002 as a human resource analyst. Ms. Kessel also has worked in strategic planning, corporate operations, corporate communications and human resources at the hospital. She most recently served as vice president of operations at Aultman Orrville.
Burke Kline, DHA. CEO of Greeley County Health Services (Tribune, Kan.). Dr. Kline has served as CEO of Greeley County Health Services for nearly twoyears. In this role, he oversees an 18-bed licensed critical access hospital, two rural health clinics and two long-term care facilities. Before joining Greeley, he was associate administrator at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, Neb.
Debra Knapheide, MSN. CEO, CNO and COO of Holy Cross Hospital – Carondelet Health Network (Nogales, Ariz.). At Holy Cross Hospital – Carondelet, Ms. Knapheide is responsible for operations, including clinical quality, safety, finance and patient experience. During her tenure, the hospital has received the Critical Access Hospital Recognition Certificate from the National Rural Health Resource Center for its work with the Community Healthcare Integrated Paramedicine Program. Before joining Holy Cross, Ms. Knapheide worked with healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom, India and the Philippines.
Connie Koutouzos. CEO of Aspirus Iron River (Mich.) Hospital & Clinics. Ms. Koutouzos helms Aspirus Iron River Hospital & Clinics, which includes a 25-bed critical access hospital and ambulatory locations. During her tenure, Aspirus Iron River Hospital was named among the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation in 2018 by the National Rural Health Association's Rural Health Policy Institute, iVantage Health Analytics and the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The Aspirus Iron River Clinic, located next to Aspirus Iron River Hospital, opened this year.
Mark Kuhn. CEO of Hammond-Henry Hospital (Geneseo, Ill.). Mr. Kuhn has helmed Hammond-Henry Hospital since October 2017. When he joined, Mr. Kuhn brought more than 31 years of healthcare experience to the top role at the hospital. He previously was a senior leader at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital, as well as chief administrative officer of Springfield (Ill.) Clinic, a multispecialty physician group.
Jerry Laue. Administrator of St. Vincent Clay Hospital (Brazil, Ind.). Mr. Laue serves as administrator of the 25-bed critical access hospital that is part of Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Health, a member of St. Louis-based Ascension Health. He has held the position since 2004 and has worked in healthcare more than 30 years. Mr. Laue has a clinical background in respiratory therapy and his previous experiences include strategic planning, marketing and community development.
Tammy Loosbrock. Senior Director of Sanford Medical Center Luverne (Minn.). In addition to the senior director role, Ms. Loosbrock has served as manager of rehab services, ancillary service director and COO of Sanford Medical Center Luverne. In 2017, Healthgrades recognized Sanford Luverne for outstanding patient experience. This year, the medical center was named among the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation by the National Rural Health Association's Rural Health Policy Institute, iVantage Health Analytics and the Chartis Center for Rural Health.
Patricia Luker. President and CEO of OSF HealthCare Holy Family Medical Center (Monmouth, Ill.). Ms. Luker helms Holy Family Medical Center, a 23-bed acute/intermediate care, critical access hospital that is part of Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare. She has worked for OSF since July 2009, joining the health system after serving as CEO of Warner Hospital & Health Services in Clinton, Ill. Ms. Luker has also held healthcare leadership positions in Ohio and Louisiana.
Lenny Lyons. Administrator of Delta (Utah) Community Hospital and Fillmore (Utah) Community Hospital. Mr. Lyons serves as administrator of Delta Community Hospital, a nonprofit, community facility. He also is administrator of Fillmore (Utah) Community Hospital, which has 18 beds and is the first level 5 trauma center in Utah. Mr. Lyons serves on the combined governing board of both hospitals. Previously, he was director of ancillary and support services at Heber City, Utah-based Heber Valley Medical Center.
Michele Meyer, BSN. CEO of Washington County Memorial Hospital (Potosi, Mo.). Ms. Meyer joined Washington County Memorial Hospital in October 2016. During her tenure, the hospital received accreditation for its sleep lab and had its survey for Stroke Level 3 accreditation. The hospital has a new primary care physician, a urologist and a medical director in its emergency department. Ms. Meyer also serves as vice president of operations at Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus, Mo.
Amy McDaniel. CEO of Iowa Specialty Hospital & Clinics - Belmond. Ms. McDaniel has serves as CEO of Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics' Belmond Campus. She has served in the role since June 2013 and under her leadership, the hospital earned a five-star CMS designation in 2017. This year, the National Rural Health Association named Iowa Specialty Hospital – Belmond a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital for overall patient satisfaction.
Michelle McEwen. President and CEO of Speare Memorial Hospital (Plymouth, N.H.). Ms. McEwen oversees operations at Speare Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital that had 14,850 emergency room visits in 2017. During her tenure, the hospital has achieved the National Rural Health Association's Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals ranking for five consecutive years.
Monty McLaurin. President of Ballad Health Northwest Market, Hancock County Hospital (Sneedville, Tenn.). Mr. McLaurin has at least 35 years of healthcare experience. In his current role, he oversees Kingsport, Tenn.-based Holston Valley Medical Center; Rogersville, Tenn.-based Hawkins County Memorial Hospital; Sneedville, Tenn.-based Hancock County Hospital; Kingsport, Tenn.-based Indian Path Medical Center; Big Stone Gap, Va.-based Lonesome Pine Hospital; Norton, Va.-based Mountain View Regional Medical Center; Norton (Va.) Community Hospital; and Clintwood, Va.-based Dickenson Community Hospital. He previously served as CEO and vice president of Indian Path Medical Center, where he played a key role in its $28 million expansion.
Doug McMillan. CEO of Cody (Wyo.) Regional Health. Mr. McMillan has been the CEO of Cody Regional Health, formerly known as West Park Hospital, since 1997. During his tenure, the critical access hospital has earned recognition among Hospitals & Health Networks' Health Care's Most Wired hospitals, a Women's Choice Award as America's 100 best hospitals for patient experience and the Jeff Martin Award for Excellence. In January, the hospital opened an orthopedic specialty clinic at its Cathcart Health Center, and in August 2017 it partnered with Billings (Mont.) Clinic to open a cardiac catheterization laboratory.
David Miller. President of River Falls (Wis.) Area Hospital. Mr. Miller has served in his current role since 2008. He is a former nationally registered paramedic and served as the president of St. Paul, Minn.-based Allina Health Emergency Medical Services and Allina Health Urgent Care Clinics. Previously, he was vice president of operations for United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., where he led the development of the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute, the St. Paul Cancer Center and the Peter J. King Emergency Center. He also was responsible for multiple patient care departments, support services departments and strategic initiatives.
Tamara Miller. CEO of Madison (S.D.) Regional Health System. Ms. Miller helms Madison Regional Health System, a 22-bed nonprofit, independent facility with around 250 employees. She has worked at Madison Regional Health for nearly four decades and has served in the CEO position since 1996. In 2015, the hospital opened a new 110,000-square-foot facility.
Tylie Mills, BSN, RN. CEO and Administrator of Pike County Memorial Hospital (Louisiana, Mo.). Before stepping into her role as CEO and administrator of Pike County Memorial Hospital in August 2018, Ms. Mills served as PCMH's director of nursing. She now oversees a staff of 200 people and is responsible for meeting the community's healthcare needs. Ms. Mills has prior experience as the hospital's emergency department and EMS director.
Kim Monjesky. CEO of UCHealth Pikes Peak Regional Hospital (Woodland Park, Colo.). Ms. Monjesky took the helm at the 15-bed Pikes Peak Regional Hospital in 2015 after serving as its CFO for five years. Before joining PPRH, she held various leadership roles at Pueblo, Colo.-based St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, including CFO and vice president of operations. Ms. Monjesky oversaw PPRH's integration into Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth in February 2018 after a long-standing relationship with the health system.
Julie Petersen. CEO of Kittitas Valley Healthcare (Ellensburg, Wash.). Ms. Petersen joined Kittitas Valley Healthcare in June 2016 as interim CEO before permanently taking over the position in April 2017. She has 30 years of experience in the nonprofit healthcare world, previously serving as controller at Richland, Wash.-based Kadlec Regional Medical Center, and then as CFO and CEO of Prosser (Wash.) Memorial Hospital. Ms. Petersen has experience serving on various committees, including as a board member and chair of the Washington State Hospital Association and the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts.
Michele Pilon, BSN, RN. President and Chief Nursing Officer of Transylvania Regional Hospital (Brevard, N.C.). Ms. Pilon has more than 10 years of leadership experience, previously serving as CNO of Memorial Hospital of Martinsville (Va.) and chief nurse executive of Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, N.C. She also spent time as acting vice president of patient care services and CNO at Eden, N.C.-based Morehead Memorial Hospital and assistant CNO of Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
Jay Purvis. President and CEO of Wabash General Hospital (Mount Carmel, Ill.). Mr. Purvis has served as CEO of Wabash General Hospital for more than 15 years and has been part of Alliant Management Services, which operates the hospital, for 25 years. As CEO, Mr. Purvis oversees 20 physicians at the 25-bed facility, which provides healthcare services for a community of 68,000 people. Before stepping into his CEO role in 2002, Mr. Purvis served as Alliant's regional vice president.
Roger Reamer. CEO of Memorial Health Care Systems (Seward, Neb.). Before taking the helm at Memorial Health Care Systems in 2000, Mr. Reamer served as hospital administrator at David City, Neb.-based Butler County Health Care Center and Ainsworth, Neb.-based Brown County Hospital. He's also held managerial roles at several hospitals in Colorado, including Penrose St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs. Mr. Reamer served as board chairman of the Nebraska Hospital Association and sat on the American Hospital Association's board of trustees.
Dave Ressler. CEO of Aspen (Colo.) Valley Hospital. Mr. Ressler has 35 years of healthcare experience, including 25 years as a hospital administrator. He served as CEO of Aspen Valley Hospital, a 25-bed community hospital, from 2004-13 before moving to Arizona to serve as chief strategy officer and COO of Tucson Medical Center. Mr. Ressler also served as executive director of the management company Community Care Alliance before returning to his CEO position at Aspen Valley Hospital in 2016.
Reed Reyman. President of CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson (N.D.). Mr. Reyman, who started his professional career as a special education teacher and school psychologist, joined CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson as CEO in 2009. As CEO, Mr. Reyman oversaw CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson's 2014 move to a new facility, which houses both the 25-bed critical access hospital and its local clinics.
Bruce Roesler. CEO of Richland Hospital (Richland Center, Wis.). Before joining Richland Hospital's leadership team in 2015, Mr. Roesler served as president and CEO of Mercy Medical Center-New Hampton in Iowa for eight years. He also acted as president and CEO of Avera Marshall (Minn.) Regional Medical Center for one year. As CEO of Richland Hospital, Mr. Roesler oversees 30 active staff physicians and 300 full-time equivalent employees at the 25-bed critical access hospital and its two rural health clinic locations.
George Rohrich. CEO of River's Edge Hospital & Clinic (St. Peter, Minn.). Mr. Rohrich joined River's Edge Hospital & Clinic as CEO in 2013 after a short stint as interim CEO of St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville, Colo. He previously served as president and CEO of The Memorial Hospital of Craig (Colo.), now the Memorial Regional Health Medical Clinic, for seven years.
Rob Santilli. CEO of Gunnison (Colo.) Valley Health. Mr. Santilli came to Gunnison Valley Health in 2012 with 27 years of experience under his belt as executive vice president and COO of Media, Pa.-based Riddle Hospital. He holds an MBA in healthcare administration from Temple University in Philadelphia and is a licensed nursing home administrator.
Matthew Shahan. CEO of West River Health Services (Hettinger, N.D.). Mr. Shahan became CEO of West River Health Services, which comprises six community clinics, a 20-bed hospital and 16 staff physicians, in April 2016. Prior to his current role at WRHS, he served as director of IT, clinic administrator and head of strategic planning at Glendive (Mont.) Medical Center.
Tanya Sharp. President and CEO of Boone County Health Center (Albion, Neb.). Ms. Sharp served as Boone County Health Center's CFO before stepping into the CEO role in 2017. She holds more than 10 years of experience in healthcare administration, previously acting as CEO of a 25-bed hospital and rural health clinic in North Dakota. Ms. Sharp graduated from the Nebraska Hospital Association Leadership Institute in 2015, sits on the National Rural Health Association board, and is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Hank Simpson, MD. CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar (Menomonie, Wis.). Dr. Simpson took the helm at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar, which also operates the Free Clinic of the Greater Menomonie Area, in 2004. Along with his role as CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar, Dr. Simpson serves as vice chief medical officer of Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System. He is a practicing family medicine physician who earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
David Phelps. President and CEO of Fairview Hospital (Great Barrington, Mass.). In 1993, Mr. Phelps became CEO of Berkshire Health Systems and Berkshire Health Care Systems, which include the five-star CMS-rated Fairview Hospital. Mr. Phelps serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association and the Massachusetts Council of Community Hospitals. With an MBA from Troy, N.Y.-based Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Mr. Phelps notably served as the former Pittsfield, Mass., mayor's assistant and a special assistant to the chief of protocol for the U.S. State Department before joining Berkshire.
Philip Stuart. Administrator and CEO of Tomah (Wis.) Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stuart joined Tomah Memorial Hospital in 1995. Since adding Mr. Stuart to its team, the hospital has completed a $10 million construction and renovation project, opened a $1.5 million facility, and begun work on a new $66 million hospital. In February, Mr. Stuart participated in the first national Rural Prosperity Roundtable led by the USDA Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development.
Dawn Trompeter. President of OSF HealthCare Saint Paul Medical Center (Mendota, Ill.). Ms. Trompeter became St. Paul Medical Center's president in January, assuming responsibility for aligning the organization with OSF HealthCare's overall strategy while directing all internal operations. Previously, she served as vice president and CFO for Saint Paul Medical Center and Ottowa, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. Ms. Trompeter helped both organizations improve their HCAHPS results, member engagement and care quality while reducing costs.
Allen Van Driel. CEO of Smith County Memorial Hospital (Smith Center, Kan.). Before joining the 25-bed Smith County Memorial Hospital, Mr. Van Driel accrued more than three decades of experience serving as CEO and COO for three Nebraska-based critical access hospitals. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has held leadership roles in organizations including the American Hospital Association and the Nebraska Hospital Association. Mr. Van Driel served as a linguist in the U.S. Air Force for six years.
Jeanie Vieira, RN. CEO of Providence Hood River (Ore.) Memorial Hospital. Ms. Vieira served on Providence Hood River's staff for 25 years before becoming CEO in May 2016. She is entrusted with overseeing the hospital, its 12 clinics, the home health and hospital divisions, and two senior care facilities. A Hood River native, Ms. Vieira was previously Providence Hood River's COO and nursing executive.
Harry Weis. CEO of Tahoe Forest Hospital (Truckee, Calif.). After serving as Salinas, Calif.-based Natividad Medical Center's CEO for eight years, Mr. Weis took the helm at Tahoe Forest Health System in December 2015. He leads the system with about four decades of clinical and financial experience, as well as healthcare strategy and acquisition expertise. In January 2018, Mr. Weis was one of two individuals the American Hospital Association appointed to represent six western states on the Council of the AHA Section for Small or Rural Hospitals.
Ken Westman. CEO of Barrett Hospital and HealthCare (Dillon, Mont.). Mr. Westman became Barrett Hospital's CEO in June 2011, as the new $30 million hospital licensed for 18 beds was undergoing construction. Under his leadership, Barrett Hospital and HealthCare was named a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by iVantage Health Analytics and the Chartis Center for Rural Health in 2017. Mr. Westman was previously Bigfork (Minn.) Valley Hospital's COO and nursing home administrator.
Todd Willert. President and CEO of Community HealthCare System & St. Marys Manor (Onaga, Kan.). Community HealthCare System in Onaga named Mr. Willert CEO in 2015. He arrived at the position equipped with more than two decades of experience as a hospital CEO, including at Nevada, Iowa-based Story County Medical Center and Albia, Iowa-based Monroe County Hospital and Clinics. With a strong track record of improving financial performance, medical staff recruitment and development, and community involvement, Mr. Willert leads more than 450 employees across seven locations.
Richard Willett. CEO of Redington-Fairview General Hospital (Skowhegan, Maine). Mr. Willett became Redington-Fairview General Hospital's CEO in October 1991, after nearly two decades serving the organization in roles such as associate director of operations. With Mr. Willett in charge, the 25-bed hospital opened an emergency department and radiology room in 1993, as well as a 60,000-square-foot medical office building in 2009. Mr. Willett is a past board chair of the Maine Hospital Association.
Gerald Worrick. President and CEO of Door County Medical Center (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.). Mr. Worrick has been president and CEO of Door County Medical Center for three decades, overseeing projects including the construction of a two-story inpatient tower in 2010 and the creation of Sturgeon Bay-based North Shore Medical Clinic. The Wisconsin Hospital Association awarded Mr. Worrick its Lifetime Achievement Award in July in recognition of his 45 years of service for WHA, including eight years on the WHA board. Mr. Worrick serves on the board of directors for the Door County Economic Development Corp.
Robert Wright. CEO of Newman Regional Health (Emporia, Kan.). Mr. Wright began his tenure as Newman Regional Health's CEO in 2014. He previously served as interim CEO of Williston, Fla.-based Regional General Hospital, as well as the CEO for hospitals in Illinois and Michigan. Mr. Wright is now overseeing a $14.5 million expansion of Newman Regional Health's emergency room, which will grow the space from 5,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet.
