Wyoming Medical Center in Casper recently filed a court document denying a former employee's claims that the hospital submitted false claims and fired her out of retaliation, according to a Billings Gazette report.
Whistleblower Gale Bryden was responsible for collecting fees that had been denied by insurers. She filed suit in 2007, claiming hospital clerks altered patient records and submitted claims to insurers reflecting different services than those provided at the hospital to receive a higher reimbursement. That suit was unsealed in October 2011.
WMC's attorney maintains the hospital did not submit the false claims, knowingly or otherwise, according to the report.
The hospital also denies Ms. Bryden's claims that her 2009 firing was retaliatory after WMC received notice that it was the subject of a federal investigation. WMC maintains that it had several valid reasons to fire Ms. Bryden, such as her alleged "inability to participate as a team player," according to the report.
