The whistleblower accusing Wyoming Medical Center of fraud has received permission to amend her lawsuit, which could include additional allegations and delay the hospital's efforts to reach a quick settlement, according to a Casper Star-Tribune report.
Whistleblower Gale Bryden claims the hospital, located in Casper, altered patients' admission status on records to receive higher reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid. Ms. Bryden filed suit in 2007 but received permission yesterday to serve WMC an amended lawsuit that may include more allegations.
WMC officials said they hoped to settle the allegations within a couple of weeks when the lawsuit was unsealed in October. The hospital has denied the allegations and maintains that any errors were accidental.
