The trial of former Powell (Wyo.) Valley Healthcare CEO Paul D. Cardwell has been delayed until September 18, according to a Powell Tribune report.
Mr. Cardwell has been accused of conspiring with Michael J. Plake of West Lafayette, Ind., to defraud the hospital of roughly $840,000 by funneling payments to Mr. Plake's limited liability company in exchange for recruiting physicians for Powell.
Federal investigators claim Mr. Plake did not actually perform recruitment activities, however, and kicked nearly 75 percent of the hospital funds back to Mr. Cardwell while keeping 25 percent for himself.
The trial was delayed amid speculation the men could be charged in Indiana as well, according to the report. Mr. Cardwell and Mr. Plake are each facing 15 criminal counts in connection with the Wyoming allegations. They both have pleaded not guilty.
