Patient sues Wisconsin hospital claiming part of surgical drain was left in leg

A former patient filed a lawsuit against Milwaukee-based Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin claiming clinicians left part of a surgical drain in his leg after an operation, WISN reported Aug. 31.

Nestor Vega received the operation in September 2020 after a car accident. The broken-off surgical drain was not removed until Dec. 15, 2020. According to the lawsuit, Mr. Vega's condition continued to worsen.

The lawsuit does not specify the exact amount Mr. Vega is seeking but his attorney said it would be in the "millions."

"We are empathetic to any patient whose expectations have not been met during their course of care," a Froedtert Health spokesperson told Becker's. "Due to patient privacy laws and ongoing litigation, we are not commenting further."
