NewYork-Presbyterian/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital agreed to pay millions of dollars to resolve kickback allegations.
The New York-based hospital was accused of paying kickbacks to physicians using its chemotherapy infusion center, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office Eastern District of New York.
The hospital allegedly had a contractual agreement with physicians linking payment to the number of referrals physicians made to the chemotherapy infusion center. Laws prohibit incentivizing physicians for referrals involving Medicare and Medicaid patients.
The infusion center's physicians were also accused of not supervising chemotherapy services adequately.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Brooklyn Medical Center voluntarily self-disclosed the issues and agreed to pay a $17.3 million settlement.
