Mediation is ongoing in a lawsuit against UPMC brought by a former physician seeking more than $225,000 in back pay after he was fired, according to the Penn Record.
Joseph Bergerson, MD, was hired by Pittsburgh-based UPMC in 2014 and signed a two-year contract with automatic renewals at one-year intervals after that. The contract could be mutually terminated or terminated by one party with six months' notice, according to the report.
Dr. Bergerson claims his contract was renewed in June 2016 and June 2017. However, he claims he was also terminated without notice in June 2017. He is suing for six months' back pay, as well as lost incentive salary and hourly pay, which amounts to more than $225,000.
