Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot, Idaho, has sued Bingham County after a series of allegations from county officials prompted a costly internal investigation at the hospital, which led to no reprimands or dismissals, according to an Idaho State Journal report.
Bingham Memorial wants the county to release documents related to the investigation and actions by Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Lee Hammett and other commissioners. The hospital's board of directors claim they issued a public records request several months prior, but the county did not share Mr. Hammett's documents.
The hospital claims allegations made by Mr. Hammett harmed Bingham Memorial's reputation and led to an internal investigation by a law firm that ended up taking nearly 1,500 billable hours of time and charged roughly $500,000, according to the report.
The Bingham County Commission maintains that any investigative activity conducted by Mr. Hammett was not officially authorized by the county, according to the report.
