From Prisma Health asking a judge to reconsider its request for a restraining order against UnitedHealthcare, to a New Hampshire hospital suing CMS and others regarding alleged Medicaid overpayments, here are 10 hospital lawsuits, settlements and legal developments Becker's has reported since Oct. 23:
1. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health is asking a judge to reconsider its request for a restraining order against UnitedHealthcare over allegations the insurer breached its confidentiality agreement with Prisma, as the two sides approach a Jan. 1 deadline to reach a new network agreement.
2. Indianapolis-based Community Health Network has set aside $75 million for a potential settlement agreement with the Justice Department and a former CFO who filed a whistleblower suit against the system almost 10 years ago.
3. Concord (N.H.) Hospital is suing a number of medical authorities, including CMS, regarding $8 million in alleged overpayment of Medicaid uncompensated care funds.
4. Warm Springs-based Montana State Hospital is being sued over alleged neglect that contributed to the deaths of two patients.
5. A woman is suing Bend, Ore.-based St. Charles Health System after a medication delay that allegedly caused her to experience a stroke in late 2021.
6. The North Carolina attorney general's office could sue HCA Healthcare for an alleged violation of the 2019 asset purchase agreement to acquire Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health, according to a formal notice of breach sent Oct. 31 to Dogwood Health Trust.
7. Chicago-based Rush University Hospital is allegedly being sued by a former employee for its use of fingerprint scanning.
8. UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Memorial Medical Group filed a lawsuit against Boston-based St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for alleged nonpayment of oncology services.
9. Community Hospital for the Monterey Peninsula and its parent company, Montage Health, may file for a new trial after losing a $9.475 million wrongful termination case.
10. St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif., faces lawsuits filed by former executives alleging the hospital forced them out after they raised patient safety concerns.
