Independent physician-owned pathology lab OmniPathology launched an oral lab-developed PCR test that detects HPV.
The test, which involves a throat swab, can detect 14 high-risk strains of the virus, OmniPathology said July 12. Those who test positive are recommended to undergo an exam by an otolaryngologist.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S., and oral HPV has no symptoms. It is spread through skin-to-skin contact.
