Wisconsin health system using GPT technology to better understand patients

Neenah, Wis.-based ThedaCare is aiming to better understand its patients through the use of GPT technology and large language models.

The Patient AI tool from Notable employs the technology used in ChatGPT to detect missed diagnoses, comorbidities (including aortic atherosclerosis), lapsed insurance cards, incorrect addresses, eligible clinical trials, and care gaps.

"As an industry, it is imperative that we change the way we deliver care and that means embracing cutting-edge technology, like large language models," said Mark Cockley, Chief Clinical Officer, MD, ThedaCare, in an April 13 news release. "Intelligent automation is at the core of our digital transformation strategy."

The technology is also being used by Castell, a value-based care company started by Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health. Notable's other health system clients include Intermountain, Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health, and North Kansas City (Mo.) Hospital.
