Seattle-based University of Washington announced the formation of the Institute for Medical Data Science, an institute that will study artificial intelligence, machine learning and healthcare, at the UW Medical Data Science Symposium, GeekWire reported March 1.
The institute is overseen by the UW School of Medicine and will work to find connections with private-sector companies. UW Provost Mark Richards, PhD, is supporting the project with a funding pool.
The funding will be used to select and support five UW projects.
The institute will be led by Interim Director Sean Mooney, PhD. Later this year, the institute will select a permanent director.
