Scientists from the University of Cincinnati are developing telehealth drones that will be able to deliver medical equipment and medication inside people's homes, News4Jax reported Jan. 3.
The researchers are outfitting drones with special sensors that will allow them to maneuver through front doors and rooms, all while holding a tablet or smartphone and a special medical kit.
The patients will then be able to measure their own health data using the equipment provided by the drone and then feed the information back to a physician through a video or phone call.
According to the researchers, the prototype has been tested for use in people's homes. Rural patients living far away from hospitals and health clinics stand to benefit from this technology, News4Jax reported.
