Columbus-based OhioHealth is partnering with Zipline to deliver prescriptions to patients' homes via drone.
Through the partnership, drones will also move lab samples and supplies between OhioHealth facilities. By 2025, the network will be able to reach 2 million people in the Columbus area, according to an Aug. 2 OhioHealth news release.
The partnership aims to drive faster prescription delivery and reduced carbon emissions through Zipline's fleet of electric drones.
"Zipline drone delivery provides a great alternative for OhioHealth as we look to grow our home infusion and specialty pharmacy home delivery services. It gets products to patients more quickly and at a lower cost, and uses less carbon-intensive packing materials compared to our traditional delivery methods," OhioHealth Vice President of Pharmacy Services Charles McCluskey III, said in the release.
