Mayo, Mercy lead funding round for clinical AI company

The investment arms of Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy joined in a $7.7 million series A funding round for clinical artificial intelligence company Lucem Health.

Lucem will use the funding to grow its portfolio, expand its sales and advance the development of its clinical AI deployment, according to a May 9 Lucem news release.

"AI has tremendous potential to transform and augment how physicians and providers practice medicine, make decisions and serve their patients. Yet, so far, we have barely scratched the surface of AI's potential in healthcare," Lucem Health CEO Sean Cassidy said in the release. "We started Lucem Health to accelerate integration of powerful AI-generated insights into care delivery workflows in a thoughtful, responsible way."
