Atrium Health goes international with virtual nursing

Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health is having an international influence on virtual nursing.

The health system is hosting three nurses from Singapore-based Tan Tock Seng Hospital to show them how Atrium's virtual nursing program works and explain the implementation process and benefits. The two-week visit is being funded by the Singaporean government.

"This visit is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of virtual nursing in enhancing patient care and to discuss how these practices can be adapted globally," said Patricia Mook, DNP, RN, senior vice president of enterprise nursing operations, education and professional development for Charlotte-based Advocate Health, the parent organization of Atrium, in an Oct. 21 statement.

Advocate Health was an early adopter of virtual nursing, now offering the care model in 20 hospitals with more to come. The health system also outfits its new hospitals with virtual nursing capabilities.

It's another way Advocate Health is showing its international reach on technology. The health system also recently started an EHR consulting business to help overseas peers with Epic implementations.
