Arkansas health system using AI to help patients in labor

Springdale, Ark.-based Northwest Health, is using the artificial intelligence system Periwatch Vigilance to monitor maternal health in three locations.

Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark., Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, and Willow Creek Women's Hospital in Johnson, Ark., will all be using the Periwatch Vigilance system to deliver maternal care. The Periwatch Vigilance system monitors vital signs such as fetal heart rate, contractions and labor progression. After multiple births, it can review this data and suggest improvements in care, according to a July 18 press release.

CDC data ranks Arkansas at the top of the United States for maternal deaths.

Megan Bokina, RN, director of women's services at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, said, "The Periwatch system has increased patient safety by giving us an extra set of eyes."
