Advocate Health leads $10.4M in funding for data startup

Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health has co-led a $10.4 million funding round for a data imaging startup.

Segmed, which deidentifies and standardizes medical imaging data for artificial intelligence development and clinical research, said it plans to use the investment to further expand into healthcare AI as well as biopharmaceuticals and life sciences.

"We're driven to advance the science of medicine," said Emilie McKenna, managing director of strategic development and investment at Advocate Health, in a Sept. 3 statement. "To that end, our team is dedicated to developing the most comprehensive provider-based research dataset in the country."

The oversubscribed series A funding round was co-led by healthcare venture capital firm iGan Partners and also included Philadelphia-based Fox Chase Cancer Center.
