Health systems are using AI to detect diseases, produce predictive clinical insights and improve patient care. Here are four artificial intelligence projects health systems have recently created and deployed as reported by Becker's Hospital Review:
- The University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor and RWJBarnabas Health in West Orange, N.J. are using Nuance's AI patient engagement solutions to increase patient reach and improve communication with patients. The platform allows for communication with patients via mobile phones instead of through a patient portal and can be integrated into health systems' EHRs.
- Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic researchers created an AI algorithm that can successfully analyze patterns of changes in women who are in labor. The AI algorithm was able to predict individualized risks during the labor process, including identifying whether a successful vaginal delivery will occur with good outcomes for mother and the baby.
- South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, N.Y., is using AI to help catch irregularities in colonoscopy screenings.
- HCA Florida Largo Hospital is using AI to help detect colorectal cancer early. The hospital is participating in a study that uses Fujifilm's AI technology to detect multiple polyps and polyps in the distal and proximal colon.
