23andMe CEO joins $30M investment round for healthcare financing company

23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki joined a $30 million investment round for Helium Health, an African healthcare technology financing company, TechCrunch reported June 5.

Helium Health originally started out offering digital health and EHR tools to African healthcare organizations. The company has since expanded into healthcare financing.

The company plans to use the capital to expand its fintech offerings and lend to 1,000 healthcare facilities by 2024.

"There are many healthcare facilities making money and are profitable but cannot access financing in Nigeria and most sub-Saharan African countries because banks don't have insights into how these hospitals operate," Helium CEO and co-founder Adegoke Olubusi told TechCrunch. "HeliumCredit is us essentially leveraging our end-to-end software product and providing a digital financing solution where our customers can apply for financing and get responses in under 48 hours."
