Service Employees International Union will continue representing nurses at UPMC McKeesport (Pa.) after an attempt to decertify the union was unsuccessful, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.

1. SEIU represents nearly 200 nurses at UPMC McKeesport.
2. The nurses filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board for a decertification election. A vote was then scheduled for Jan. 30, a hospital spokesperson confirmed.
3. Nurses ultimately voted 121-41 to stay with SEIU, which has represented nurses at UPMC McKeesport for decades, according to the report. About 75 percent of voting nurses came out in favor of the union. Voting turnout exceeded 90 percent.
4. The union commended the nurses' decision.
"Today marks a victory for Pennsylvania nurses who wake up every day to take care of our neighbors and can't imagine any other line of work," said UPMC McKeesport nurse Heather Frye, BSN, RN, in a statement provided by SEIU to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "In the past few weeks, we've come together in bigger numbers than ever before — from nurses who've been on the job for decades to nurses just starting out in our careers — to do what's right for our profession and our patients."
5. The publication was unable to reach nurses who filed the petition for comment.
6. The hospital, which has reportedly supported decertification efforts, told Becker's Hospital Review it would not comment on the vote.
