In a vote at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., registered nurses decided to not be represented by the California Nurses Association, according to a Sacramento Business Journal.
The hospital's nurses voted June 26 and 27 and had a 92 percent turnout of 352 nurses. Preliminary results show that more than half — 57 percent — of the nurses voted no to CNA representation.
"We are pleased that our nurses chose to remain union-free and have a direct relationship with management," Memorial Medical Center CEO Daryn Kumar said, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. The hospital has not had any unionization since it opened in 1970.
The CNA will likely file a complaint, as union leaders allege the hospital used pressure tactics to get its nurses to vote against union representation, according to the report.
