Trinity to sell Michigan hospital to CHI

Trinity Health has signed a purchase agreement with Wildwood, Mo.-based Catholic Healthcare International to sell its legacy hospital Trinity Health Livingston in Howell, Mich.

Trinity Health Michigan is building a $238.2 million replacement hospital in Brighton, which is expected to open in 2026. The 174,000-square-foot hospital will include 56 acuity adaptable beds, 18 short-stay unit beds and eight operating rooms.

As part of the purchase agreement, ownership of the hospital and the almost 23-acre parcel of land it sits on will be transferred to CHI. Trinity will also rent a small space within the facility from CHI.

Trinity Health Michigan will continue to offer medical services in Howell, but they are not yet determined.

"When we announced construction of our replacement hospital in Brighton, we were committed to finding a responsible future for our legacy Howell facility," John O'Malley, president of Trinity Health Livingston and Trinity Health Medical Center Brighton, said in a May 31 news release. "Through our negotiations, we discovered an organization whose mission aligned nicely with our desire to serve the community. We wish CHI well as it embarks on its new venture."

Financial terms of the proposed transaction were not disclosed.
